A Business Methodology

The Asylum lays it out for you. It's true, their business model is in constant flux and they continue to sell pictures. They could make those pictures better, but they don't have to. And they don't really seem to care because (I presume) they like making movies more than they like making "good" movies.

But I do wonder, what companies are they talking about in that blog post? Anybody know? Who says “We’re going to make movies like The Asylum… only good.” Dear Lord, I hope that's not me. ;-)

The weird part is that they seem HAPPY to make inferior movies. Funny that the LEAST expensive fix would improve their stuff the MOST. (the writer)

Dunno. I can't get on board with anybody TRYING to make crappy shit just 'cause it sells.

Ha! When I read "that the LEAST expensive fix would improve their stuff the MOST" I thought "the sound".

Shows where my prejudices are.

But I think you're right. I dig where their problems are - the movie has to be written in about 30 days. And it's HARD to write a shootable movie in 30 days, not to mention one that's actually GOOD. But I suspect if they paid writers more the pictures might be a bit better. (Although if they're using writer/directors maybe not -- they'll take both fees in order to get above the line on a feature and they won't care what it costs them in time.)

I don't think their sound is what's MOST wrong with their movies. I mean...we tried to watch Mega-Pirahna the other night(a buddy gets review screeners for his web site) and...it's just HORRIBLE.

It's frustrating to watch that level of money(which really isn't that much, but to you and I it's a freakin' FORTUNE), and waste it on poor CGI, ATROCIOUS acting, and a script my 6 year old autistic son could have written better...

Yeah, 30 days isn't much, but I guarantee any actual writer could do better than what they're doing. (the "writers" they're hiring aren't REALLY writers...they're barely hacks...)

I wish that I could make the money they made with Mega-Pirahna! ;-)

Writing is hard. Sound design is hard. Pointing a camera at a few actors and finding focus is pretty easy.

I'll give you everything but finding focus. Finding focus is a biotch! ;-)
