Zombie Q&A

You're not going to start with a safety lesson, are you?

Of course I am. Safety is the only goal. Nobody gets hurt. The way to do that is to make sure you're not doing anything which could lead you to be hurt and to say something if you see someone ELSE doing something which could lead to you/them getting hurt.

I'd rather we not get anything shot at all and everyone be safe, than for anyone to be hurt.

OK, but I'm totally up for being a zombie.

Hooray!

Where are we shooting?

In fabulous Metuchen, NJ.

How do we get there?

Meet at Penn Station, someone will be there to give you a ticket. All that info is on the callsheet.

Will we get lunch?

Chinese food. We'll have vegetarian, omnivorian, whatever-Chinese-providesrian.

How late will the day go?

Depends how quickly you can build/strike sets.

Really?

No, I kid. We'd like to have every last person safe and snug back in NYC by 9:33pm.

What if I need to leave early?

That's possible. We'd have to coordinate someone driving you to the train so make sure we have a long ways heads-up about it.

Can I drive my car straight to set?

Yes. The address is on the call sheet. Do tell me (via email) if you're going to do that so nobody's stressed out that you aren't on the train.

So back to that whole "sets" thing, can I help out?

Yes. Ask Joe if/when he needs help.

Will there be a lot of waiting around?

You betcha! We're making a movie. That means hurry up and wait!

What will I wear?

Bring comfortable shoes to set. We have these nice blue uniforms you get to wear.

What kind of zombies are these?

Fast and dangerous. You're from Terran Special Forces and you've been genetically modified to defend the space station against an Airborne Alliance attack.

Do I get a gun?

Nope. Unfortunately the genetic process of your modification hasn't done much to make you smart. You can barely open a door.

Wow. That sounds a lot like my dates.

I knew you'd say that.

Will there be lots of blood?

Not as much as you'd think. Most of the blood effects will be added in post.

What should I know about the location and what we're shooting?

Safety is the most important thing. You're in a working metal shop. Don't touch anything. The stuff at the shop has a tendency to be either 1. sharp and/or 2. incredibly expensive and irreplaceable. Always wear shoes.

Why shoes?

Because both inside and outside the office the floor is simply covered with tiny metal shavings.

Ouch.

Exactly.

You're aching to talk more about safety, aren't you?

Yes. Yes I am.

OK, hit me.

Be careful. Listen to the fight directors. If at any time you don't feel safe say "stop". That means try to keep the noise level down so you can hear people saying "stop". In general, go slower than real life. Make sure, if you're taking a fall, that your fall has been approved by one of our fight directors and that you're safe and comfortable and can do it repeatably safely and comfortably.

I thought we were supposed to be fast zombies?

Believe me, when Maduka is done cutting this thing you'll be the fastest zombies you ever saw.

What if I have more questions?

Hit me with an email!
