OK, so here's some money spent on simple and elegant animation. The Coldplay video for "Strawberry Swing" is stop - motion "chalk on the floor" animation. I think it's one of the better examples of this style I've seen.
There's also a high quality stereo version on Coldplay's site.
According to this interview (use your up-down arrow after clicking inside the text to navigate), they pre-visualized the entire thing with a cg character.
